Five seasonal marketing tips for businesses
23rd December, 2009
We like to keep our blog as relevant to the seasons as possible. And with Christmas a mere couple of days away, we thought you might like a bit of festive knowledge before you pack up for a long winter weekend. Here are our top five seasonal marketing tips.
1. 'Tis the season to be jolly
A national holiday or a change in season is a great excuse to get in touch with your customers and tell them about any special offers you have on to celebrate the time of year. You can do this in a number of ways, but don't go annoying people.
2. Send out an e-mail newsletter
Send your customers an e-mail newsletter with the latest news about your company, any new products you have, any special offers you've got on, etc. Make it stand out with a seasonal design. And going along with the afore-mentioned not 'annoying people,' don't go spamming people. It'll cost you less and you'll get better results if you send your newsletter to people who want to receive it.

3. Search engine marketing
Google Adwords campaigns and other similar pay-per-click (PPC) forms of advertising are great for seasonal marketing campaigns. They offer quick results when done properly and need less time and effort than an organic search campaign (which you'd have to start working on at least six months in advance to be ready in time).
4. Tweet if you wanna go faster
Wish your customers a very merry Christmas, a happy Easter, a lovely Valentine's Day by tweeting and usng the @ symbol to tag them in to your tweet. Get more of your customers to follow you on Twitter by including your Twitter account information in your e-mail signature. And keep your Twitter profile fresh by designing a new background that fits in with the time of year. See our previous post, Creating great backgrounds for your Twitter profile.
5. Write a seasonal blog post
Kind of like we've done here. You can host a blog within your current website or externally, but if you're going to have one, it's a good idea to keep updating it regularly- nothing worse than a 'Latest News' that's last post was in 2008. Well, there are a few things that are worse... war, famine, racism... but you get my point. If you don't think you'll be able to keep up with the blog management, hire somebody to do it for you.
If you're smart, you can incorporate all of these things into a seasonal marketing campaign. If you don't have time, hire a professional to do it. Make sure they know what you want and get as involved as you feel you want or need to.
